  5. How to Reduce “Burnout”...

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the “Great Resignation” and the ongoing shortage of qualified talent. Along with these, there seems to be an increase in the usage of the term “burnout” within employees in the workplace. If you’re the head of a company or are part of an HR department, your employees may not have what they need to thrive and survive. The COVID pandemic has brought mental health to the forefront and has shown people how important it is to take action and start including wellness packages. Let’s dive in on why you should be incorporating these in order to increase your employee’s longevity!

Companies like Hootsuite, HubSpot, LinkedIn, and Bumble are beginning to offer, actually force, employees to take a mental health day, or five, to recoup, reenergize and refocus. Some companies also offered mental health subscriptions, or increased their current mental health benefits. Since introducing mental health breaks, there’s been an increase in engagement, focus and energy, specifically, Hootsuite had a 15% boost in employee engagement in the last year and a half. They’ve received positive feedback and employees felt they were being supported throughout the pandemic.

Through pursuing new initiatives that are in favor of the employees and their well-being, companies are gaining confidence in experimenting with ideas and concepts because of how well this has been taken. With leaders making the jump first to putting their well-being at the forefront, this sets the tone for the rest of the company.

Our advice is, encourage your employees to take their needed “me” time, even for yourself, every single day. Whether it’s taking a walk, watching a favorite tv show, or reading a favorite book. It’s important for everyone to be aware of their well-being. If an employee asks for a day off in order to recharge, ensure they’re not worried or stressed asking for those requests, after all that’s why they have the ability to request days off. Our employees, and their families are our greatest asset and should be treated as such, and as business leaders we should make sure this is ingrained in our culture.
